Shoe Mat

Hello again! I have been crafting and organizing my apartment after my roommate moved out this past week but now I am motivated to start posting a lot more on my blog. Yesterday I sat down and from start to finish made a small mat with stones covering it. I have seen them made before as spa mats but I had another plan for mine. I am not sure if I have ever mentioned before that I live in a small apartment. Small. I mean 700 square feet kind of small and when you have an apartment that small you don't generally have a lot of extra space for things like closets and places to put your shoes. So, I made my spa mat to sit under the bench at the top of my stairs to set my shoes on so my carpet stays clean.

To make this I bought a place mat and bags of stones at Walmart. I simply glued down each stone with hot glue and then put a coat or polycrylic on top so the whole thing was shiny. I think it turned out pretty cool. Let me know what you think!

Hexagons!

Last Saturday I had a friend call me later in the afternoon to ask me if I could watch her babies that night while her and her husband went on a date night. I said "of course," but was a little sad because I had planned on crafting that night. I then decided that it would be a perfect time to get together my fabric that I got to buy for one of my Christmas gifts and washed and ironed it all. When I got to their house the kids were in a bed so I had the whole night to start my new hexagon quilt. I am using the english paper piecing method and it is so much fun! I have finished a little pile of the hexagons and even put together a flower out of one of them just to see what it would be like to sew them all together. This project is perfect for busy work to do in front of the tv (or sitting at a friends house keeping an eye on the kiddos). Here is a sneak peek at what I have done so far. The fabric is Lakehouse Annie's Farm Stand.

Terrarium Time

My mission today was to get plants small enough to fit into a wonky fishbowl to make a terrarium. I found a few good plants at Home Depot and found a perfect little glass owl in the garden section at Target! They also had a little gnome but his metal stake would not budge without heavy tools so I went with the glass owl which was more fitting for where I want to put the terrarium anyways! Let me know what you think : )

Scrapbook Layouts

Hi everyone. I have been scrapbooking for the past couple of days so I thought that I would post a picture of some of my favorite layouts that I have made in the past and the layout that I finished this afternoon.

This is the layout that I finished this afternoon.

Also, as I promised before, I thought I would show you my quick thriftstore project. I refashioned a sweatshirt by basically cutting the collar off. This sweatshirt/project cost me $2 and turned out adorable in my opinion.

Don't mind Avah. I couldn't get her to behave and get off of this thing! You can see the line that I quickly drew on there to cut along.

This is me wearing it after. It is so comfy! I wore it babysitting and grocery shopping.
I also had a periwinkle-ish blue sweatshirt that I did this to. I love how they both turned out and will probably be living in them from now on! Hope you like my projects. Give me a shout out : )

Craft Mood

I have been in a major crafty mood the past couple of days. I refashioned a few sweatshirts I found at the thrift stores and made a couple bracelets. I even went and bought more supplies to make more bracelets. I still need to take pics of my thriftstore finds to post and then I will also post pictures of my current projects!

Thrift Store Madness

My friend and I went on a thrift store shopping spree day today and hit the jackpot! We went to our normal thrift store and also tried the local salvation army and the local DAV. Not only did we find a ton of clothes to alter (which is why we went in the first place) but I bought an old Samsonite suitcase to redo! I have a few things to do tonight and then I plan on taking before pictures of all of my cool finds! Hope everyone is having a great Friday!

Another Valentine's Idea for My Hubby

I was looking through all of the Valentine's candy the other day and came up with a cute idea to send to my husband in his box. I decided to buy enough bags of Hershey's hugs and Hershey's kisses so he would have a hug and a kiss for every day he is going to be gone. It came out to be about three bags each. I found cute little Valentine's boxes at Walmart to put them all in and then made little picture tags to go on them over at picnik.com.

Let me know what you think!

I'm Back!

I know I have been missing in action for two weeks now but I am back on my feet and ready to show off a few things that I have working on. Since Justin left, my first project was to get his Valentine's box. I decided to make him a little card mini (52 reasons I love you) that I saw on Pinterest. Here is my version.

I decided I wanted to add a few pictures to mine so I pulled together a few of my favorites and printed them out on cardstock. I decorated each picture with some cut out hearts, patterned paper, and stickles. When that was done I modpodged over all of them. Each card and picture was distressed with Tim Holtz distress inks (antique linen and brushed corduroy). Let me know what you think!

What I Am Up To

Sorry I haven't been posting lately but I have been spending time with my hubby because he leaves Monday morning on a six month deployment. I have been working on a few crafty things though and as soon as I finish them up I will be posting new pics! Until then, I have some snuggle time that I need to soak up while I can!

What I Have Been Up To

I have been working on purging and getting rid of some clutter in my crafty area since I no longer have a crafty room : (. My second project (my first was using up some scraps on a few cards) was to take all of my crafting magazines and cut out anything that I found inspiring in them. I cut out any layouts, sketches, cards, minis, tags, and other paper crafts that I liked. I tossed the leftovers and organized all of these pieces in a folder that I have. My next step is to make a sort of inspirational/idea smash book. I am not sure how I want to do this yet so I am looking around online for a few ideas first. Now I have a whole cube box to organize other crafty supplies in.......
that is when Avah decides to get out of it! Maybe I will use it for my newly trimmed down paper scraps! We will see : ).

Stockpile

One of my goals this year is to make a stockpile of cards to have on hand when I need them. I like making cards when I'm not under pressure to get them done right away so I figure this is a good way to avoid procrastinating and then ending up buying really expensive cards. I saw a card like this on pinterest here. I thought it would be a good way to get rid of a lot of my scrap paper.

Now I'm off to make a bunch more of these. Let me know what you think!

Happy New Year!

I know that I have been missing in action but the holidays were crazy busy here! We had a friend move in with us so I had to move my scrapbook room out of our spare bedroom a couple days before my husband and I flew back to Washington for Christmas. I also decided that I was going to make a mini album for my sister for Christmas. Her boyfriend and her bought a house a few years back that they have been renovating so she wanted a way to show off her pictures of the journey along the way. I made the album out of Simple Stories Generations line because her house is in the same colors as that paper line. Here are the pictures I took of the finished album (without her pictures).

One of my goals this year is to learn how to take much better pictures for my blog. I realize that these pictures are pretty terrible. I also want to find a place to make better photo collages. If you have any tips, please feel free to let me know!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful and creative new year so far!
